Greetings friends! Hope you are feeling all kinds of cozy right now.
Glorious fall is upon us! The snow is creeping down the mountain tops, leaves are scattered about, mushrooms are flush, and the ungulates are getting all horned up. If you can’t tell, this is my favourite time of year. It’s always felt more like the end of the year for me. The year turning over in the middle of winter always seemed odd to me, but I didn’t make the Gregorian calander so I have very little influene on the matter. Either way, I consider Fall a time of reflection. Of taking stock before winter, and getting excited about the future.
Perhaps the most exciting future thing we have to announce is that we are hiring! Understory Records is looking for an intern to take on managing our social media. Right now, we don’t really have any social media! And that’s kind of the point, because we want to direct people offline. But we also need to be able to get the word out, and that’s where perhaps you come in?
Here’s what the job will look like:
5 hours/week for 45 weeks. $20/hour
Make weekly posts on Instagram, and other relevant social media platforms. We can provide images and videos, but also encourage a fresh perspective on what we share! We are old and don’t know where people post things, so help us be more visable
Follow relevant pages (other labels, artists, music festivals, venues, etc) and try to build relationships with them. Also, keep up to date with the artists we represent and promote the cool stuff they do!
Provide a weekly report of metrics (how many posts were made, new followers, views, likes, etc)
Keep us up to date on any DMs that we need to reply to
Direct people to our artists’ pages, website, newsletter, and shops selling our stuff. Also, get them outside please, it’s so nice there!
Who do we think would be good at this job?
Anyone who is passionate about music, arts, Northern BC, and has their thumb on the pulse of what might cut through the noise of crud on the internet. We would love to hire a student, especially someone who wants to learn more about the music industry, but certainly will consider anyone who is interested in the position.

In other news, some great Northern BC bands are heading down to Cumberland for the annual Woodstove Festival Nov 6-8th. You can see Puddy Waters, Highbush Caribou, The Psuedos, and Static Witch all in the same weekend with a slew of other fantastic artists. If you happen to be on the island around then, I highly suggest going! It’s a great festval.
Forest floor update:
The ground is soft and damp, with a blanket of leaves where all the little bugs and larva can get tucked in and sleep until springtime. Winter chanterelles are off the chain, and you can probably still get out there and pick some! There’s also some good bolete action going on. The moose rut is winding down I think, but in a few weeks the deer will start rutting. I see their tracks all over the woods right now.
